Wow, there’s a workout to chill the blood. The path of least resistence for me would probably be Helen, Karen, and Annie, though I think Hypoxia might be more ‘fun’.

I can’t think of any good way to do this on beyond the whiteboard, so what people can do instead is select post -> workout instead of wod, then select the workouts they did from the main site list (hypoxia is listed under our gym).

I’ll be curious to see what people choose. If nothing else, post to comments saying you survived.

  2. That’s the last time I ever voluntarily do Eva.

With a sinus issue still in the way:
    Eva 51:20
first round – 55 lbs, red band
other 4 rounds – 44 lbs, blue band

Humidity = slippery. Thought I was going to cry or collapse several times, but was still slow. Ugh.

  3. Courtney Says:

Oh, I wish I wouldn’t have read your post before going now, Anne.

  4. Ryan Whipple Says:

    Today’s workout was…Epic Failure
Murph: 53:33, 10 minutes slower than PR.

I think a lot of factors played into the bad day, the heat being biggest among them. I’m glad to be up and moving after last week’s beatings though!

Hypoxia with 55lb thrusters and 35lb bell. Brutally hot and I thought I was going to pass out around round 5. Went and stuck my head in the sink, but to save time, I did my burpees on the way there and back. Had to do the same in round 7 when I got the sudden urge to pee or mess the floor! The BP/AF boys with me finished before my last round and cheered me on and ran with me. That is what I dig about CF! 45:25

It was awesome to see so many people on so many levels picking their poison and hitting it hard. It started raining around 5pm, so the next round of hypoxia/murph/etc got the rain and cooler temps. Jealous, I was.

I went home and ate a huge steak, asparagus, a whole artichoke and flushed it down with a Captain and Dt. Freska. Great day. Rest now.

Since everyone else had to do a soul-crushing workout today, I ran a half marathon on the track at the university. The first 10 miles weren’t so bad, but the last 3.1 were absolute hell since my knee started hurting terribly (as did the soles of my feet since I was running barefoot). Each time I stopped to gulp water my knee hurt more when I started running; I didn’t stop for the last 3 miles since I was sure I wouldn’t be able to get started again. My self imposed goal was 2 hours, which I thought I was going to be able to beat by a whole lot more than I did since I slowed down so much at the end.

I had to change lanes a lot since there were other people using the track, so I brought the GPS. Time: 1:53:51

Anne: do people actually run these for fun? I feel like curling up in a corner with a blanket and crying.

  7. Angelica Says:

I’d say EPIC FAILURE is the perfect description for my workout too. Note to self (and everyone else) – do not stop crossfit for three months and then jump in with hypoxia. Oh, and don’t drop a kettlebell on your knee either. Oh well, at least I got to run in the pouring rain. I’ll be back tomorrow for more torture :) .

  8. Courtney Says:

Go Ryan! Barefoot?! I would suggest you try one with scenery next time instead of running in circles like a hamster. Makes you forget some of the pain.

  9. Ryan Smith Says:

Barefoot is generally a good idea… but if your feet aren’t really used to it (like mine) you can make and tear calluses in one sitting. I figured out that was why I was hurting so much for the last 3 miles.

I like the hamster image :)

  10. Good grief Ryan!! First of all, you ran a respectable time. I can’t believe you did it barefoot, and on a track!!! They’re much more fun in a group and on a course!

  11. Ryan Smith Says:

Really? I was a little disappointed in myself, though I have no frame of reference to compare my time to. I’d heard that 4 hours for a real marathon is a reasonable goal, and if I struggled that much to keep it under 2 hours for a half marathon there’s no way I’d be able to do the real thing in 4.

Running with other people would be more fun, but I need to learn not to let them set my pace for me. Running by myself I think I’ve gotten a little better at listening to my body. I think I was making a mistake by trying to use the GPS to set a rigid pace and hold myself to it, it’s better as an occasional reference.

By the way, for riding around the island and running I got some Project Rudy’s, good recommendation.

Today was the last day of the summer school conference, I’m flying back on Tuesday. The first week back is probably going to kick my butt despite trying to keep in shape here; I’ve done some bodyweight exercises and running, but not much heavy lifting. Site note: Gatoraid is nasty stuff, if there is a non-sugary way to restore electrolytes for really long runs I want to find it.
